UFG researchers recognized as AI leaders amid new Finep innovation grants

The Federal University of Goiás (UFG) is highlighting significant developments in research, innovation, and artificial intelligence. The university's Research and Innovation Pro-Rectory announced that Finep has opened four new axes for its ‘Finep Mais Inovação Brasil – Round 2’ initiative. These funding opportunities focus on semiconductors, sustainable agro-industrial chains, the defense industrial base, and digital technologies. The semiconductor track includes a budget of R$ 100,000,000.00 for companies, with applications closing on September 30, 2026.

Additionally, two UFG professors, Anderson Soares and Arlindo Galvão from the Institute of Informatics, have been recognized as two of the 30 most influential professionals in Artificial Intelligence in Brazil. According to the ‘Pulso 2026/2027’ study by Deck and Nexus, Soares is noted as a ‘strategic bridge between academia and the private sector.’ The recognition highlights the growing importance of the state of Goiás as a research hub, following UFG's establishment of the first undergraduate degree in Artificial Intelligence in Latin America.
