UFMG to launch Brazil’s first public university smart campus
The Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) has announced two major developments regarding its infrastructure and faculty. The university will establish Brazil’s first smart campus among public universities at its new site in Betim, located in the Greater Belo Horizonte area.
According to Rector Alessandro Fernandes, the smart campus project aims to utilize advanced technology and artificial intelligence to enhance engineering education and sports. A key objective is to achieve energy self-sufficiency through sustainable solutions, such as photovoltaic panels or gas energy, while prioritizing accessibility. The site, formerly the Fiat Clube, includes a gymnasium, event halls, and pools that will be adapted for academic use.
Additionally, UFMG has opened a selection process for a permanent assistant professor position in dermatology within the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine. The recruitment process, which includes written, didactic, and title evaluation stages, is open for applications from October 2 to October 30, 2026.
