UFPA and Altamira partner to strengthen medical training in Xingu

The Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and the Altamira City Hall have strengthened their partnership to enhance medical education in the Xingu region. During a meeting at the Altamira University Campus, UFPA Rector Gilmar Pereira da Silva met with municipal managers, including Health Secretary Maurício Nascimento, to align strategies for the Faculty of Medicine.

The collaboration aims to improve academic activities and create conditions that encourage new medical professionals to remain in the region. A key component of the initiative is the integration of the university with the municipal health network, which serves as a practical training ground for students.

Rector Silva emphasized that consolidating public higher education in the interior requires cooperation between the university, the government, and society, noting that training doctors in the Amazon requires a dynamic and shared approach throughout the learning cycle. Secretary Nascimento reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to technical cooperation to improve public health services in Altamira and surrounding Xingu municipalities.
