US Department of State reports $18.2 billion loss to global cybercrime networks
A report from the United States Department of State reveals that transnational criminal organizations, primarily led by Chinese agents, have caused US losses of $18.2 billion through industrial-scale online fraud. These networks operate across more than 125 countries, utilizing sophisticated digital schemes including romance scams, illegal gambling platforms, and fraudulent cryptocurrency investments to evade tracking.
The operations are characterized by severe human rights abuses. Criminal groups recruit individuals from approximately 80 nations through fake job advertisements, subsequently subjecting them to violence, sexual exploitation, and intimidation. These victims are forced to carry out global scams from monitored complexes, often under conditions described as analogous to slavery.
