Rio de Janeiro opens 2027 Carnival block registrations

The Rio de Janeiro municipal government, through Riotur, has opened the registration period for street carnival blocks (blocos) interested in participating in the 2027 Carnival. The registration process is entirely online and must be completed by September 24, 2026. This initial stage is crucial for coordinating logistics, security, and infrastructure across the city.

Carnival 2027 is scheduled to begin on January 16. Riotur president Bernardo Fellows emphasized that the goal is to increase organization and structure while preserving the diversity and spontaneity of the event. The registration timeline includes municipal analysis through mid-October, followed by a period for requesting document reviews and obtaining mandatory complementary documentation from public security agencies like the PMERJ, PCERJ, and CBMERJ.

Additionally, Rio is hosting the second Brazilian edition of the Claude Impact Lab on August 30. This hackathon, sponsored by Anthropic, focuses on developing artificial intelligence solutions for urban challenges, specifically addressing needs identified by the Municipal Department of Education.
