UFSC hosts colloquium on US-China geopolitical rivalry

The Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) will host the XX Brazilian Colloquium on World-Systems Political Economy from September 21 to 23 in Florianópolis. Organized by the Group for Research in World-Systems Political Economy (GPEPSM), the event focuses on the rivalry between the United States and China and its geopolitical and economic implications for Brazil and Latin America.

The colloquium features international researchers from institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, the University of California, the University of Maryland, and the Universidad Nacional del Litoral. Discussions will cover global economic transformations and the challenges faced by semi-peripheral countries regarding energy, technology, and power accumulation.

Specific research sessions will address topics including the fertilizer industries in Brazil and China, Washington and Beijing's investments in Brazil, the hegemonic dispute over the lithium triangle, and the national defense industry.
