Uganda and Tanzania leaders discuss bilateral cooperation
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Tanzanian Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi met at State House Entebbe to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and the implementation of joint development projects.
The discussions focused on shared priorities including trade, energy, infrastructure, and regional economic integration within the East African Community. Both leaders emphasized the importance of regular government engagement to ensure the timely completion of strategic projects intended to improve transport connectivity and facilitate trade.
A key area of cooperation is the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), a 1,443-kilometre project designed to transport crude oil from Uganda’s Lake Albert oilfields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan previously indicated a target for the first oil shipment through the pipeline by July 2026.
