Uganda breaks ground on $310M Kampala Storage Terminal

President Yoweri Museveni has presided over the groundbreaking of the US$310 million Kampala Storage Terminal (KST) in the Mpigi District. Developed by the state-owned Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), the facility is designed to significantly expand the nation’s strategic petroleum reserves.

The terminal will have a capacity to store up to 320 million liters of refined petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and kerosene. This capacity exceeds Uganda’s current monthly consumption of approximately 240 million liters and surpasses the national storage target set for 2029/30.

The project is a key component of Uganda’s integrated petroleum value chain. It is intended to connect to the planned Hoima refinery via a 211-kilometer multi-product pipeline and will integrate with the future Mpigi Remote Refinery Terminal (MRRT). Once operational, the system will allow for the efficient receiving, storage, and distribution of both imported and domestically refined petroleum products.
