Uganda commemorates 141 years since Bishop Hannington’s martyrdom

The Church of Uganda held commemorations in Mayuge District to mark the 141st anniversary of the martyrdom of Bishop James Hannington. The event, held at Kyando Village under the theme “Anchored in Christ for Unity, Peace and Stability,” honored the Anglican missionary who was killed in 1885 while traveling to the Buganda Kingdom.

Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu urged Christians to emulate the faith, courage, and integrity of the martyrs while promoting peace and reconciliation. Representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda delivered a message calling on religious institutions to support socio-economic transformation and household wealth creation alongside spiritual guidance.
