Uganda graduates nearly 12,000 soldiers and joins Invictus Games movement
President Yoweri Museveni presided over the passing-out ceremony of 11,947 Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruits at Kaweweta Military Training School, praising Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for improving soldiers' welfare. The cohort included 1,002 trainees from the Central African Republic, reflecting expanding regional defence cooperation. Museveni urged citizens to vote for leaders of integrity in upcoming local elections.
The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs announced that Uganda has become the first East African nation to join the global Invictus Games community. A partnership agreement with the Invictus Games Foundation will enable Uganda to field athletes at the Birmingham 2027 Invictus Games, supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of wounded, injured and sick military personnel through sport.
