Uganda High Court hears multiple parliamentary election petitions

The High Court in Uganda is presiding over multiple election petitions following recent parliamentary contests.

In Kayunga District, the hearing for the Ntenjeru South parliamentary seat was adjourned to allow National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Patrick Nsanja to mobilize witnesses. Nsanja is challenging the victory of National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Fred Baseke, alleging that results were falsified in 15 polling areas and requesting a recount.

In Masaka City, legal proceedings have commenced regarding the Woman MP seat. NUP candidate Rose Nalubowa is contesting the election of State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere. The dispute arose after a recount overturned the Electoral Commission’s initial declaration of Nalubowa as the winner. While the recount declared Nameere the winner with 25,502 votes, Nalubowa has rejected the results, alleging the process was irregular. The court is currently managing the exchange of evidence and respondent rejoinders.
