Uganda military chief announces arrest of serial killer suspect and demotion of retired general

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced the arrest of Mujurizi Moses, a suspect he accuses of killing and cannibalizing 38 people across several western districts, including Masaka, Ibanda, and Kazo, over a 15-year period. While the army chief shared images of the suspect in custody and vowed tough action, the specific evidence and identities of the alleged victims have not yet been independently verified.

In a separate development, Gen. Muhoozi announced that former Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu has been stripped of his military ranks and demoted to the rank of Private. Muhoozi labeled Elwelu a traitor and claimed that more than 20 of the retired officer’s former soldiers have been arrested. Additionally, Muhoozi alleged that Elwelu’s wife was arrested following accusations of domestic abuse against the former general. These claims mark an escalation in a long-standing public feud between the two officers.
