Uganda offers to host OACPS headquarters, seeks deeper trade ties

Uganda’s finance minister Henry Musasizi met OACPS Secretary‑General Moussa Saleh Batraki in Kampala, emphasizing the bloc’s role in expanding trade and investment for Uganda’s US$500 billion economy goal by 2040. He highlighted the need for collaboration on peace, security, infrastructure, affordable electricity and human‑capital development across the 79‑member Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).

President Yoweri Museveni also used the meeting at State House Entebbe to offer Uganda as the next host for the OACPS headquarters, proposing a move from Brussels. He reiterated support for South‑South cooperation and pledged assistance to the organization’s financial recovery, noting recent pledges secured at a summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, from member states including Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Eswatini, Tanzania, China and Barbados.
