Uganda police seize 700 rounds of ammunition at Apiriti Border Post

Ugandan police in the Lamwo District arrested three individuals following an intelligence-led operation at the Apiriti Border Post. Authorities recovered approximately 700 rounds of live 7.62 x 39 mm AKM ammunition that had been concealed inside a box of soap.

The primary suspect, 24-year-old South Sudanese national Edward Peter, was intercepted while traveling toward the border. Peter, a boda boda rider, claimed he had entered Uganda to purchase soap from a garage owned by Nokrach David, a Ugandan resident of Madiopei Town Council. Upon searching the consignment, officers discovered the metallic ammunition box hidden beneath the soap.

The investigation led to the arrest of David and Kidega Tabu, identified as the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) of Madiopei Town Council. Preliminary statements from David suggest the box was provided by Tabu for delivery to a mechanic identified as Lukuli in Ikotos, South Sudan. Police are currently working to locate Lukuli and establish his role in the smuggling attempt. A motorcycle used during the operation was also seized as evidence.
