Uganda President approves three new vocational skilling hubs
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has approved the creation of three new Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs in Uganda to expand vocational training for vulnerable youth. The new facilities will be located in the Ntungamo, Bushenyi, and Kalangala districts.
State House Comptroller Jane Barekye announced the expansion following concerns regarding high competition for limited slots at existing centers. Currently, the Ankole Zonal hub serves 17 administrative units, with some areas receiving as few as 14 slots per intake compared to over 25 in other zones.
The new hub in Kalangala is specifically intended to assist youth in the island district by reducing the travel costs and difficulties associated with reaching mainland training centers. Once completed, the administrative units in the Greater Masaka region will be split between the existing hub and the new Kalangala facility.
