Uganda President Museveni Calls for Accountability in Security Forces
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni warned that impunity within Uganda’s security agencies would not be tolerated, saying unlawful conduct undermines public trust and the rule of law. In his national address he pledged continued investigations of alleged abuses and emphasized that discipline is essential for maintaining confidence in state institutions.
Museveni also defended recent security operations as necessary for protecting peace and sustaining Uganda’s democratic gains, rejecting claims that they represent a rollback of democracy. He linked security actions to broader reforms, including curbing illegal street hawking, protecting wetlands, and fighting corruption in public services, while urging citizens to participate in upcoming local elections and report misconduct.
The president’s remarks came amid growing scrutiny of security personnel’s conduct during arrests and enforcement actions across the country.
