Uganda President Museveni presides over UPDF officer commissioning
President Yoweri Museveni officiated the commissioning of 280 officer cadets at the Uganda Military Academy in Kabamba. The graduating cohort included 87 graduates from a three-year Bachelor of Defence Studies programme and 193 professional cadets, with participants also hailing from Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
During the ceremony, President Museveni commended Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for efforts to combat corruption within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and for improving the welfare of soldiers. He emphasized that a robust national defense is fundamentally linked to a strong economy and advised military leadership to protect wealth creators in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and ICT.
The event also marked the commissioning of Second Lieutenant Ruhamya Kainerugaba, the grandson of President Museveni and son of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The young officer completed the 44-week Officer Commissioning Course following previous service in the Special Forces Command and training in the United Kingdom.
