Uganda President Museveni promotes domestic production and Italian investment
President Yoweri Museveni has emphasized the need for wealth creation and domestic production to achieve sustainable development in Uganda. Speaking at the inauguration of the Kampala Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments in Nsambya, Museveni highlighted the importance of transitioning from importing goods to manufacturing and local distribution. He praised Capital Shoppers Ltd Chairman Ponsiano Ngabirano for expanding a grocery business into international hospitality and commended the National Social Security Fund for investing workers' savings into productive domestic enterprises.
In a separate diplomatic engagement, President Museveni met with Italy’s Ambassador to Uganda, Mauro Massoni, to discuss strengthening economic cooperation. Key areas of focus include coffee industry development, trade, infrastructure, and skills training. An upcoming Italian delegation, led by the Secretary General of Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is expected to visit Uganda to explore investment opportunities. Additionally, a Uganda Business Forum is scheduled for October in Rome to facilitate new commercial partnerships between the two nations.
