Uganda remains Ebola-free after confirmed case transits to Kenya
Uganda remains Ebola-free following reports that a confirmed case in neighboring Kenya transited through the country. The Uganda Ministry of Health stated that an individual traveling from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) spent less than 24 hours in Uganda before traveling to Kenya. Health officials noted the individual showed a normal temperature during screening at Entebbe airport.
In response to the Ebola situation in the DRC, Uganda’s Ministry of Health has advised the deferral of a planned Independence Day concert in Gulu featuring Koffi Olomide. Officials expressed concern that the large event could encourage cross-border movement from high-risk areas in the DRC through informal routes, complicating surveillance efforts.
In Kenya, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has reassured international visitors and delegates at the Magical Kenya Travel Expo that the country remains a safe destination. She characterized the recent Ebola case as isolated and confirmed that the government is working with health authorities to strengthen safety measures.
