Uganda Speaker Oboth addresses parliamentary staff validation exercise
Speaker of Parliament Jacob Marksons Oboth has assured Parliamentary Service staff that an ongoing validation exercise is intended to restore merit, integrity, and order rather than cause job losses. The process involves verifying academic qualifications, appointment records, and recruitment procedures to ensure staff ranks accurately reflect experience and qualifications.
Oboth stated that the new parliamentary leadership aims to ensure promotions and appointments are based on merit, noting that the exercise seeks to align the institution with the accountability standards of the broader public service. He has requested assistance from the Head of Public Service to maintain fairness and transparency throughout the process.
The verification follows allegations that over 300 employees were recruited during the 11th Parliament without following proper procedures, including claims of appointments made without advertised vacancies or necessary academic credentials.
