Uganda telecom revenue hits record Shs1.73 trillion

Uganda’s telecommunications sector achieved a record quarterly gross revenue of Shs1.73 trillion (approximately US$465 million) between April and June 2026. According to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), this figure marks an increase from the Shs1.60 trillion recorded in the previous quarter.

The growth is attributed to rising data consumption, an expanding active subscriber base, and the continued expansion of mobile money services. Average monthly spending per user rose to Shs15,349 in June, up from Shs10,932 in the preceding quarter, driven largely by a sharp increase in average monthly data bills.

Key metrics from the report include: - Active mobile subscriptions rose to 49 million, up from 47.5 million. - Mobile internet subscriptions increased to 19.7 million. - Smartphone connections reached 20.5 million. - On-net voice traffic saw a slight decline to 20.4 billion minutes, signaling a shift toward internet-based communication.

Mobile money remains a central component of the sector, with active mobile money subscriptions reaching 37.8 million.
