Uganda to inspect wealth creation programmes in Teso and Lango

The Ugandan government is launching a two-week oversight inspection of major wealth-creation programmes in the Teso and Lango sub-regions. Led by the Office of the President through the Department of Socio-Economic Monitoring and Research, the exercise will focus on the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Presidential Initiative on Wealth and Job Creation (Emyooga), and the Cattle Restocking Programme.

Minister of State for Economic Monitoring, Hon. Santa Sandra Alum Ogwang, stated the inspection aims to determine if substantial public resources are effectively increasing household incomes and moving citizens from subsistence production to the money economy. The monitoring team will visit eight districts, including Kapelebyong, Kalaki, Bukedea, and Soroti City in Teso, as well as Apac, Otuke, Dokolo, and Lira in Lango.

Authorities are investigating several concerns, including irregular beneficiary selection, weak SACCO governance, poor recordkeeping, delayed fund access, low loan recovery, and the potential diversion of public funds. Ogwang emphasized that the exercise is intended as an accountability and learning tool to identify successful interventions for replication and recommend corrective actions where gaps exist.
