Uganda-UK Health Partnership Grows with Entebbe Hospital Upgrade
Health leaders from Uganda and the United Kingdom convened in Kampala on 29 July 2026 for the second Uganda‑UK Summit, a flagship event co‑hosted by the British High Commission and Uganda’s Ministry of Health. The gathering brought together NHS trusts, Ugandan ministry officials, diaspora health professionals and global partners to showcase collaborative projects in critical care, cardiology, kidney transplantation and maternal‑newborn health, and to discuss lessons from Uganda’s recent Ebola response.
During the summit, President Yoweri Museveni directed that the UK firm Globespan Infrastructure partner with Ugandan builder SMS Construction to fast‑track the upgrade of Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital. The upgrade aims to expand patient capacity, introduce modern specialised services and integrate existing facilities into a unified regional centre. Globespan is known for arranging project financing, while SMS Construction has completed several major health‑sector projects in Uganda.
Both initiatives underscore a deepening health partnership that emphasizes South‑to‑North knowledge exchange and joint investment in Uganda’s health system.
