Uganda unveils Shs50 million jersey design competition as East Africa prepares for 2027 AFCON
MTN Uganda and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have launched a nationwide competition offering more than Shs50 million in prizes for a new Uganda Cranes jersey. Submissions are accepted from 22 June to 9 July 2026 via the MTN More platform, with the top designs entering a three‑day boot camp (14‑16 July) before the winning kit is produced for the national team. The contest is part of the broader build‑up to the 2027 African Cup of Nations, which will be co‑hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Pamoja Local Organising Committee held high‑level consultative talks in Kampala, marking a 365‑day countdown to the tournament’s opening on 19 June 2027. This will be the first time the East African region hosts the AFCON since 1976, with expectations of over 1.5 million spectators and a global TV audience of more than 3 billion. The three host nations have automatic qualification but will still participate in the qualifying matches.
The combined initiatives highlight the region’s push to showcase its football heritage, boost creative industries, and generate economic and social benefits ahead of the continental showcase.
