Uganda Unveils Statue of Yonatan Netanyahu at Entebbe Airport

Uganda unveiled a bronze statue of Lieutenant‑Colonel Yonatan Netanyahu, the older brother of Israel’s prime minister, at the historic terminal of Entebbe International Airport. The monument marks the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Entebbe hostage‑rescue mission, in which Netanyahu was the sole Israeli soldier killed while more than 100 hostages were freed.

The ceremony was led by Uganda’s army chief, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who described the memorial as a symbol of courage and a sign of the deepening security partnership between Uganda and Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed emotional gratitude, recalling his brother’s sacrifice. The unveiling also referenced the broader history of the hijacking, the role of Idi Amin’s regime, and the deaths of Ugandan soldiers during the raid.
