Ugandan opposition leaders Kizza Besigye and Erias Lukwago hospitalized

Ugandan opposition leaders Kizza Besigye and Erias Lukwago have been transferred to medical facilities following a rapid deterioration in their health. The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) reported that Besigye, a former presidential candidate facing treason charges, was moved from Luzira Maximum Security Prison to the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) Hospital due to his fragile condition.

Erias Lukwago, the Executive Chairman of the PFF, was also reportedly rushed from Murchison Bay Prison to an undisclosed medical facility after his health critically worsened. The PFF has expressed concern over the leaders' wellbeing, accusing state authorities and the judiciary of failing to respond to previous requests for medical bail despite the age and health concerns of the detainees.

Besigye, a long-time political adversary of President Yoweri Museveni, has faced ongoing legal challenges and detention. His current medical emergency follows reports of him appearing too weak to follow court proceedings during his trial.
