Ugandan SMEs complete green economy business bootcamps
More than 50 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from the Kampala Metropolitan, Busoga, and West Nile regions have completed intensive three-day business growth bootcamps in Uganda. The program is part of the ‘WeWork — Green and Decent Jobs for Youth’ project, implemented by the SHONA Group in partnership with Enabel and the Government of Uganda, with financial support from the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium.
The bootcamps targeted high-potential enterprises in sectors including renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, smart irrigation, waste management, green construction, and eco-tourism. The initiative aims to strengthen Uganda’s green and circular economy while addressing barriers such as limited access to finance, inadequate management skills, and talent shortages.
Regina Bamugye, Project Manager at SHONA Group, stated that the objective is to move entrepreneurs from ‘being green by accident to being green by design.’ By building business acumen and operationalizing green value chains, the project seeks to prepare SMEs to access capital and create sustainable, decent employment for young Ugandans.
