Uganda's Nile source remains a major natural wonder

Uganda has long been associated with the source of the Nile, a geographic mystery that has fascinated travelers and explorers for centuries. While the Nile is fed by a complex network of tributaries extending into Rwanda and Burundi, and much of its volume comes from the Blue Nile in Ethiopia, the White Nile begins at Lake Victoria in Uganda.

The historical site of Ripon Falls, once identified as the river's source, has been significantly altered by infrastructure projects. A hydroelectric dam completed in 1954 flooded many of the original waterfalls, and the 2012 Bujagali Dam submerged areas previously used for whitewater rafting. Today, a small marker remains as an island near Jinja, serving as a tourist destination for those visiting the shores of Lake Victoria.
