Uganda's UPDF names new deputy division commander and special forces chief

Colonel Winston Mugarura was appointed Deputy Commander of the Uganda People's Defence Forces 3 Infantry Division in Moroto, succeeding Brigadier General Allan Kyangungu. The handover ceremony was led by Major General Wilberforce Serunkuma, who emphasized the importance of professional development, teamwork and sustaining peace gains in the region.

Brigadier General Asaph Nyakikuru was promoted to acting Major General and named Acting Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC) by Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, taking over from Major General David Mugisha. Nyakikuru brings extensive experience from commando operations, peacekeeping missions in Somalia, involvement in South Sudan, and domestic counter‑insurgency actions.
