Uganda's Water Ministry partners with Church of Uganda on fish farming and launches solar water supply project

The Ministry of Water and Environment in Uganda signed a partnership with the Church of Uganda to promote fish farming and restore wetlands across 24 districts in the eastern and southwestern regions. Funded by the Green Climate Fund, UNDP and the Ugandan government, the initiative includes fish feed processing machines, aims to improve household incomes and has already demarcated and restored more than 55,000 hectares of wetlands while supporting over 59,000 people from 14,000 households.

Separately, the ministry handed over a solar‑powered water supply system in Kalangaalo sub‑county, Mityana District. Valued at 3.4 billion shillings and financed through India’s EXIM Bank, the project provides safe water to more than 20,000 residents in 15 villages, with community management structures and plans for additional tap stands.
