UGM suspends PPDS student for insulting BPJS patient

Universitas Gadjah Mada's Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FK‑KMK) has deactivated a specialist‑training student, Elda Putri Rahardini, for three months after a social‑media post mocked a BPJS patient, Yurizal Tri Chaerawan, who had complained about an eight‑hour hospital wait and later died. The university is conducting a formal investigation into possible breaches of medical ethics, professional discipline and academic regulations. Dean Prof. dr. Yodi Mahendradhata expressed deep condolences to the family and stressed that empathy, respect for patient dignity and professional conduct are essential in medical training. If the investigation confirms violations, further sanctions may be imposed. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the behavior of health‑care trainees in digital spaces and the importance of ethical standards in Indonesia's medical education system.
