Nigerian Court Remands Ugochukwu Eze for N800m Suntrust Bank Hack

A 47‑year‑old man, Ugochukwu Eze, known as “Amazon,” was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos on charges of hacking Suntrust Bank Plc’s server and diverting more than N800 million between 2023 and 2026. Prosecutors from the Department of State Services allege he conspired with others to unlawfully interfere with the bank’s computer system, violating the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2024 and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022. Eze pleaded not guilty. The court, presided over by Justice Friday Ogazi, ordered his remand in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending a bail hearing set for 24 August 2026. The charge reads: “That you, Ugochukwu Eze, alias Amazon, sometime between 2023 and 2026 in Lagos and other places within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, unlawfully hindered the function of Suntrust Bank Plc’s computer system and, in the process, fraudulently diverted over N800m belonging to the bank.”
