UGT Albacete honors labor rights defenders at fifth annual awards

The fifth edition of the ‘Virginia González Polo’ awards was held by UGT Albacete to recognize commitment to labor rights and social justice.

Recipients of the awards included UGT General Secretary Pepe Álvarez, recognized for his role in defending social dialogue and workers' rights, along with the workers of Geacam, unionist María José Tomás, and the Albacete Labor Inspection. Lola Alcónez, General Secretary of UGT Castilla-La Mancha, accepted the award on behalf of Pepe Álvarez.

Francisco Javier González, the provincial secretary general of UGT Albacete, emphasized the importance of these recognitions during a period where he noted that democracy and freedom are not always fully guaranteed. He stated that unions must play a role beyond the workplace to preserve and conquer new rights.
