UGT calls for State Agricultural Agreement to protect sector employment

Mariano Hoya, Secretary General of UGT FICA, has called for the establishment of a State Agricultural Agreement to improve working conditions and ensure the future of the agri-food sector. The sector is a vital component of the national economy, representing approximately 7% of employment with 1.3 million workers and export capacities reaching 80 billion euros.

Hoya emphasized that a unified state agreement is necessary to standardize labor conditions, address labor shortages, and tackle the lack of generational renewal. He also highlighted the essential role of migrant labor in maintaining sector employment and urged the government to encourage employers to negotiate a national-level agreement.
