UGT protests in Cantabria over dependency care labor rights

The UGT union held a protest in front of the Parliament of Cantabria to demand changes to the Law of Social Rights and Services. The union argues that a specific additional provision in the law is blocking negotiations for a new regional collective agreement for more than 10,000 workers in the dependency care sector.

Gema Fernández, secretary of Dependency for UGT Public Services, stated that current public prices are tied to an outdated national agreement, preventing the negotiation of a regional contract that could improve precarious wages and working conditions. She noted that some workers, such as home care assistants and cleaning staff, earn very low monthly salaries, and warned that mobilizations will continue until the legal barrier is removed.
