UGT protests Renfe ticket office closure in Astillero

The UGT union has expressed strong opposition to the closure of the Renfe ticket office in Astillero, Cantabria. The union reported that the decision, implemented on October 1, results in the loss of four jobs and removes direct passenger assistance from the municipality.

UGT claims this is part of a broader strategy to dismantle local transport services in Cantabria, noting that ticket offices in Renedo de Piélagos, Cabezón de la Sal, and Reinosa have also been closed. The union warned that replacing human staff with automated systems disproportionately affects vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, who may struggle with digital-only services for purchasing tickets and receiving information on schedules or delays.
