UGT union launches labor protests across Spain

The UGT union has initiated several labor campaigns and protest actions across different regions of Spain to address wage disparities and collective bargaining disputes.

In Cantabria, the union has launched a campaign titled “¿Eres trabajador de Primaria o de segunda?” to protest a wage gap within the Cantabrian Health Service (SCS). UGT claims that specialized care staff receive significantly lower salaries than primary care staff in the same professional categories. For instance, the union estimates a specialized care nurse could earn between 400 and 1,000 euros less than a primary care counterpart.

In Palencia, UGT has issued a one-week ultimatum regarding the collective agreement for the company Seda. If negotiations do not advance, the union intends to call for a strike in November. The dispute centers on a wage increase, with the company proposing 3% this year and 1.5% in subsequent years, while the union demands a 12.5% increase.

Additionally, in Burgos, cleaning sector workers represented by UGT are planning mobilizations throughout November. Workers are protesting low wages, which average just over 1,000 euros, and demanding better working conditions and hour reductions to ensure a dignified living wage.
