UHAS receives 200 laptops to expand digital skills training

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ghana is expanding its technology-based learning following the receipt of 200 laptops under the government’s One Million Coders Programme (OMCP). The hardware, which includes Intel Core i5 processors and 16GB of RAM, is intended to help equip future healthcare professionals with essential digital competencies.

Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, urged the university to integrate digital skills training into its academic structure. He recommended a tiered approach, introducing foundational digital literacy in early years and more specialized training, such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, and prompt engineering, as students approach graduation.

The Minister emphasized that the medical field is rapidly evolving, citing the importance of telemedicine, robotics, and data management in modern practice. The OMCP is designed to supplement traditional academic curricula with industry-relevant technical skills to ensure graduates are prepared for the modern workplace.
