Becky Jones, a 33-year-old woman, was misdiagnosed with a terminal grade 4 glioblastoma at age 21. For 11 years, she underwent continuous chemotherapy with temozolomide (TMZ), despite medical guidelines suggesting only six cycles over six months. She was told by consultant Professor Ian Brown that she would die without the treatment and that the tumor was not visible to the naked eye.

In 2025, a review of cases connected to Professor Brown revealed that Jones never had cancer. Instead, she suffered from tumefactive demyelination, a brain inflammation that could have been treated with steroids. The prolonged, unnecessary treatment caused severe side effects, including constant nausea, stomach pain, and exhaustion. Other patients linked to Brown have reported serious complications, such as sterility and leukemia following excessive chemotherapy cycles.

Jones is among more than 40 patients initiating legal action against the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust. The Royal College of Physicians has noted systemic failures in clinical oversight at the facility.
