Uherské Hradiště film festival spotlights Czech‑Slovak experimental cinema
The film festival held in Uherské Hradiště, Czech Republic, presented a retrospective of Czech and Slovak experimental films from the 1960s, including Věra Chytilová’s *Sedmokrásky* (1966) and Elo Havetta’s *Oslava v botanickej záhrade* (1969). The program also featured contemporary works from neighbouring countries, such as Wojciech Smarzowski’s *Sladký domov* and Pawel Pawlikowski’s *Domovina* from Poland, as well as a Georgian feature shot entirely on a mobile phone.
In addition to classic titles, the festival screened new Czech productions, including the world premiere of Tomáš Hubáček’s *Wirbel*, Ondřej Hudeček’s debut *Poberta*, and Adam Koloman Rybanský’s *Dovolená v Českém ráji*. Panels addressed societal themes like mental health and social inclusion, with participation from actors David Švehlík, Judit Pecháček and others. The event was organized in cooperation with local cultural institutions and highlighted the ongoing dialogue between historic avant‑garde cinema and today’s filmmakers.
