Uhuru Kenyatta to transfer Jubilee Party leadership following court ruling

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has accepted a High Court ruling that clarifies the transition of retired presidents from formal political party leadership. The ruling, delivered by Justice Lawrence Mugambi, upheld provisions of Section 6 of the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act.

Kenyatta stated that the decision is a reaffirmation of Kenya’s democratic maturity rather than a restriction on his political activities. His office noted that the ruling provides the necessary legal clarity to resolve a long-standing internal dispute regarding the Jubilee Party chairmanship.

The former president expressed his willingness to complete the handover of the party leadership openly and in accordance with the Jubilee Party constitution. He described the development as the beginning of a “new chapter” for the party, which he hopes will be led by a new generation of leaders.
