UI GreenMetric 2026 rankings highlight global university sustainability

The 2026 UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings have been released, evaluating 2,016 institutions across 110 countries on environmental performance, including energy, waste, water, and transport.

Turkey emerged as a leader in the rankings, placing first in Europe for the number of participating universities and second globally. Several Turkish institutions achieved high placements, with Istanbul Technical University ranking 28th and Yıldız Technical University 45th globally.

In Egypt, the number of participating universities rose to 47. The University of Alexandria maintained its position as the top-ranked institution in both Egypt and Africa, placing 107th globally.

In Tunisia, the University of Carthage secured the top national spot and ranked 22nd in Africa, climbing to 655th in the global standings.
