UIDAI announces free Aadhaar biometric updates for children until September 30
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a notice to parents and guardians regarding the mandatory biometric update (MBU) for children. For the 5 to 17 age group, biometric updates will be provided free of charge until September 30. Following this deadline, the authority may implement fees for the service.
According to UIDAI regulations, biometric updates are required when a child reaches the ages of 5 and 15. This is because fingerprints and iris scans are not captured for children under five, as these biological markers are still developing. Maintaining updated records is essential for identity verification during school admissions, board examinations, scholarship applications, and accessing various government schemes.
To date, a special campaign has resulted in approximately 20 million children completing their biometric updates across the country.
