UIDAI clarifies rules for changing Aadhaar date of birth

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has outlined specific regulations regarding the modification of dates of birth on Aadhaar cards. Generally, individuals are permitted to update their date of birth only once.

While there is no strictly defined maximum number of changes, any request to change the date of birth for a second time or more is not treated as a standard update. Such requests undergo more rigorous verification and require substantial documentation. A birth certificate is considered the most critical document for these corrections. If a previous update was made using a different document, a birth certificate may be required for subsequent changes.

In cases where an error was caused by an Aadhaar center operator, the correction process differs. Individuals must visit an Aadhaar enrollment center with supporting evidence to prove the error was administrative. For exceptional circumstances, an exception handling process is available, which requires providing a valid reason and necessary documentation at an enrollment center, as online updates for secondary changes are not currently supported.
