UIDAI launches Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK and Sandbox
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched the Aadhaar Face Authentication Software Development Kit (SDK) and a corresponding Sandbox environment at the Global Fintech Fest 2026. These tools are designed to allow ecosystem partners, such as banks, insurance companies, and fintech firms, to integrate face authentication directly into their native Android and iOS applications.
By embedding this capability, the SDK eliminates the previous requirement for users to switch to a separate background application, such as FaceRD, to complete authentication. The SDK incorporates AI and machine learning-based liveness and anti-spoofing features to ensure security, while also supporting the encrypted handling of authentication data.
The newly introduced Sandbox provides a secure, controlled environment for developers to test the entire authentication journey—including user provisioning, consent, face capture, and error handling—without needing external biometric hardware. This allows organizations to validate processes and test failure scenarios like network interruptions or spoofing attempts before full production deployment.
