UIDAI offers free Aadhaar biometric updates for children until September 30

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that mandatory Aadhaar biometric updates for children aged 5 to 17 will remain free of charge until September 30. The authority is urging parents and guardians to complete these updates to ensure accurate records for school admissions, examinations, scholarships, and access to government schemes.

Children are required to undergo Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) at age 5 and again at age 15. While enrollment for children under five captures demographic details and photographs, fingerprints and iris scans are not recorded at that stage because biometrics are still developing.

Regarding general Aadhaar maintenance, there is no specific limit on how many times a user can update their photo, though the process must be done in person at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra and typically incurs a fee of Rs 125. However, name corrections are limited to two instances, after which further changes may only be permitted under specific circumstances with necessary documentation.
