Uijeongbu secures national funds for Memorial Park expansion
Uijeongbu City has secured 390 million won in national funds following its selection for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s 2027 Development Restriction Zone Resident Support Project. The funding is designated for the second phase of the Jail-dong Landscape Improvement Project, also known as the Uijeongbu Memorial Park.
The project aims to transform the existing memorial site into an open cultural space where citizens can experience both relaxation and the values of veteran remembrance. While the first phase focused on leisure and convenience facilities—such as grass squares, walking paths, and public restrooms—the second phase will focus on upgrading the memorial functions.
Key improvements in this phase include repairing the aging Hyeonchungtap plaza, installing barrier-free inclined memorial stones to improve accessibility for the mobility-impaired, and adding night lighting to the memorial structures. Mayor Kim Won-ki stated that securing national funds aligns with the city’s fiscal innovation goals by minimizing the local financial burden while expanding public spaces.
