UIKS launches investigation into prisoner transport vehicle accident

The Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions (UIKS) has launched an internal investigation following reports of a traffic incident on the Danilovgrad–Podgorica road. The UIKS was informally notified by a Volvo driver that a vehicle used for transporting detainees was involved in an incident that preceded a subsequent accident.

Reports suggest that a UIKS vehicle, traveling at high speed, crossed into the opposite lane, causing the Volvo driver to swerve into a rock to avoid a direct collision. The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica has been informed and has issued instructions to the police administration to investigate the matter.

The UIKS stated that the Head of the Security Sector has been ordered to conduct an internal probe to establish the facts. If the investigation finds grounds for the responsibility of the official operating the UIKS vehicle, appropriate measures and legal procedures will be initiated.
