Uil Calabria calls for AI governance to protect worker benefits

The Uil Calabria trade union has called for the governance of artificial intelligence to ensure that the technological transformation benefits workers. During a meeting at the University of Calabria, Mariaelena Senese, general secretary of Uil Calabria, emphasized that the spread of AI requires a comprehensive strategy involving research, training, and the production system.

Senese argued that the academic world must play a central role in building the necessary skills to face technological changes. Furthermore, she stated that the productivity gains driven by AI should be equitably redistributed to workers through improved safety, job quality, and wages, rather than solely increasing corporate efficiency. The union also highlighted the need for a stable connection between universities and businesses to apply academic expertise to the regional economy.
