UIL Calabria pushes for human‑centered AI and tax cuts for youth

At the XIII regional congress of UIL Calabria, secretary Mariaelena Senese called for AI to be governed so that "the person remains central". She stressed that artificial intelligence should improve work quality, wages and safety, and urged that its deployment be guided by collective bargaining and social dialogue. Senese also proposed lowering the regional IRPEF for workers under 35, citing Calabria’s low per‑capita income and high youth out‑migration, and highlighted the region’s low female employment rate.

Recent scientific studies cited by Nature raise concerns that reliance on AI may erode professional skills. A Polish study found that endoscopists detected fewer precancerous lesions when AI assistance was unavailable, suggesting a drop in diagnostic performance. A separate randomized trial with software engineers in the United States showed that participants who used an AI coding assistant scored significantly lower on a post‑exercise quiz, indicating poorer learning of core programming concepts. Both studies warn that AI tools can make users less motivated, focused and responsible when the tools are not present.
